The Norry at Kompuchea
The Norry at Kompuchea
78 Rivington St, at Allen; Lower East Side
A new brother pubstaurant adjacent to Kampuchea, The Nor’s curved tiled cieling, exposed brick, and wooden accents set the vibe for casual Cambodian fare including its sibling’s popular banh mi-esque num pang sandwiches and tamarind baby back ribs, plus new bites like fried chicken with chili salt, and veal meatballs...

Circus Fruits
totry:
Driving around south Brooklyn one night, my boyfriend and I came across Circus Fruits, a 24 hour supermarket overflowing with fresh produce lining three sides of the store exterior. After some googling, we found that this supermarket specializes in fresh produce, dairy, meat, cheeses and other specialty Italian items at wholesale prices.
After looking at their weekly specials, I...

Sachiko's on Clinton
I’ve always loved Sachiko’s in the East Village for their sake sampler and snacks so figured it was only natural to try their LES outpost of Sachiko’s on Clinton. While I had no complaints about the service and the sake selection was quite memorable, I could have done without the food.
My friend Kim ordered the pleasantly sweet and tantalizingly cloudy Nigori sake for us to...

Marlow & Sons
Unable to stop thinking about Diner’s corn from the Le Fooding event, my friend Irene and I decided to have dinner at sister restaurant, Marlow & Sons. While we waited for a table, we sipped on the Spartacus and Homewrecker cocktails , both were tasty but not extremely impressive. The first resembled a typical wine spritzer while the latter was just an overpowering bourbon.
After...

RIP Gourmet
It’s so sad to see a good publication wither away and with that, Gourmet is sadly shuttering. The unforgettable photography will always be remembered by the epicurean world. The book publishing and tv programs will at least still live on, as well as the Gourmet recipes on Epicurious.com.

General Greene
totry:
After ending the Le Fooding event on Friday with tasty Vanilla Bourbon ice cream from General Greene, I had to look into this restaurant further to learn more about Julie Farias. Hailing from Beer Table, Chef Farias has recently taken over the kitchen at GG and specializes in tapas style servings of hearty foods for the soul. I’d like to try some of the following dishes recommended...

Daniel Boulud: America's Favorite French Chef
After attending the first screening of Daniel Boulud’s documentary, Un Certain Goût de L’Amérique: Daniel Boulud, I instantly became enamored by this cheery French chef. The screening was followed by an in-person interview conducted by Dorothy Cann Hamilton, Founder and CEO of the French Culinary Institute. His friendly, hilarious demeanor shown through and had the crowd laughing in...

Known for being quite the after work party animal, Daniel Boulud has documented some of his escapades with a Hulu video series, After Hours with Daniel, where he gathers his friends together to dine at some of his favorite happening food spots to discuss what else but food. He’s probably the most charismatic Chef I’ve seen recently and I’d love to be chosen for one of his late...

The Amateur Gourmet
Thanks to my friend Phil, I’ve become a little obsessed with Adam Roberts and his food blog, The Amateur Gourmet. The draw was obvious:
I live in Park Slope, he lives in Park Slope.
I’m a food blogger, he is an established food blogger.
The list goes on and soon enough, I found myself reading his book with the same title, The Amateur Gourmet.
It’s a quick, entertaining...

The Spoon Sister’s Chef Set of Page Flags are perfect for bookmarking recipes. I currently use regular page flags from Staples but these would make referencing just that much easier.

Bon Appétit Supper Club
To spice up lunch this week, I plan on dining at the Bon Appétit Supper Club at least once. This week long pop up café and restaurant returns to midtown with meals created by the likes of Daniel Boulud and Mario Batali, book signings, cooking demos and best of all, Q&A’s with chefs that all foodies know and love.

Mini-Cocottes
designisme:
For those that know me well, it would not come as a surprise but I have recently become obsessed with Le Creuset’s Mini-Cocottes set. Bitten by the cooking bug mid-summer, I have been trying to find cookware that I would not be embarrassed of displaying and these would be the perfect bowls to have at my next dinner party. I can see piping hot french onion soup slowly overflowing...

Rocco Ristorante
Two words embody Rocco Ristorante: great service. During my NYU days, I’ve always been curious about Rocco Ristorante but for some reason never found myself there for dinner. When I saw that Restaurant.com had it listed as part of their gift certificate program last week, I figured this would be the perfect time to give it a try.
The interior was quite old-fashioned but it was built in...

The Future of Food Expiration Dates
By rethinking food expiration dates, TO-GENKYO proposes using an hourglass sticker that changes color depending on the level of ammonia emitted by the food. Once the label has become unreadable, the food has expired.
